I think I found more typicity of the place than the grape in the 2016 Citius Pinot Noir. It’s a very pleasant red, with cherry and spicy aromas, a vibrant palate with fine tannins, integrated acidity and long lasting flavors, intense and very pleasant, but if you approach it with Burgundy in mind, you’ll be completely disappointed. If you’re open-minded and forego the variety, the wine delivers a lot of pleasure for the price asked, with some complexity and lots of balance and elegance. It packs 14.5% alcohol, but it’s very well disguised. 29,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2018.
Brothers Diego and Hugo Ortega keep the flame of Pinot Noir alive in a cooler part of the Duero, where they cultivate 10 hectares of the variety, plus six hectares of Tempranillo and four of Cabernet Sauvignon. They now produce 150,000 bottles.
Winemaker Notes
Soft red that expresses a medium body. Aromas of ripe fruits are blended elaborately with oak that lends it some toasted, balsamic essences. On the palate it is well-rounded and easy to drink.
100% Pinot Noir monovarietal wine Aged exclusively in French oak for 18/24 months. Bottled on the property with a minimum stay in bottles of 18 months. Citius Pinot Noir represents the maximum expression of Pinot Noir, both in aromas and in its velvety and persistent palate. It is the most careful manifestation in the elaboration of our wines.
